The health habits of ultra-healthy men

2017’s modern man is all about healthy snacks, hitting the gym and green tea. We find out the habits of the healthiest men in the wellness business.

A new report by PhD Nutrition has revealed that 78% of men are more conscious of their eating habits than ever before, one in four has a skincare routine and 22% drink herbal tea. Not sure how where to start when it comes to wellness? Urban Massage has caught up with some of the best-known names in fitness, nutrition and wellbeing to find out just how they do it:

Virgin Active Master Personal Coach, Nick Beer uses a medicine ball to complement his running regime:

“Having good posture, a strong core and sure balance is an essential trio in running efficiently. Using the medicine ball can isolate these groups, which allows me to focus independently on each one. Having a weighted ball as an additional training variable challenges my body to ensure that these fundamental characteristics of running are tested fully.”

Joe Wicks, The Body Coach, likes short and sweet workouts:

“HIIT is my non-negotiable. Why? The obvious – it’s over fast! I get up, do twenty minutes of HIIT and BOSH – I’m done for the day! Who has the time to spend hours in the gym? No one. I do HIIT and get on with my day.”

Daniel Herman, CEO of Bio Synergy nutrition times knows fuelling rest is as important as fuelling exercise:

“I end each day with a Whey Better shake, so that my body gets the goodness it needs to recover whilst I sleep, as recovery is the key to getting the most from exercise.”

Scott Laidler, personal development coach takes it easy:

“When struggling to burn fat or to avoid weight gain in stressful situations, stress is one of the biggest problems. It releases a ‘fat hormone’ called cortisol and this can lead to a lack of motivation to stick to your training and healthy eating plan. During times of high stress, my advice would be to focus on strength training a couple of times per week to stay physically strong but do not put your body through calorific restriction of any kind until the stressful period has passed.”

David Kingsbury, movie-set personal trainer who whipped Hugh Jackman into Wolverine shape supplements his gains:

“When looking for a muscle building supplement, many people don’t know what to choose. The supplements you need must specifically relate to your fitness goal; otherwise it won’t work. When building muscle, protein powder is a fitness staple. It is a great low cost option for topping up protein. Plus, it’s a lot more convenient than cracking open the eggs whilst in the gym changing room. I typically use whey protein isolate post workout and hemp protein powder during the day (e.g. mixed with my oats for a full-on breakfast bowl).”
