Benefits of sports massage

  • Stretches muscles to help prevent injury

  • Boosts blood flow for quicker recovery

  • Frees up movement after exercise

Our recommendation

“Whether you’re a die-hard athlete or an everyday exerciser, this treatment will help you move at your best,” says Nadège, our lead therapist.

“Expect advanced massage techniques designed to break up tension, stretch muscles and boost blood flow. It’s not just for sports people either – everyone can benefit from a sports massage.”

During your treatment

Your therapist will begin by asking you about your medical history and any current or past injuries.

They’ll use oil, wax or lotion to carry out the treatment, with techniques to re-oxygenate tired muscles and break down tension.

No, a sports massage should never be painful. It might feel slightly uncomfortable at times when your therapist uses stronger pressure but you can always ask for it to be lighter.

It depends on the type of pain. A sports massage is likely to help with muscle soreness and tightness after a workout, but for medical conditions like arthritis, it’s better to see a doctor or physiotherapist. For soft tissue injuries, like a pulled muscle or pinched nerve, try our specialist injury/pain management massage.

No, sports massages aren’t safe if you’re pregnant - try our specialist pregnancy massage instead, suitable from your second trimester.

Yes, but we recommend getting one no later than 72 hours before your race, and asking your therapist to keep the pressure fairly light. That’ll make sure your muscles have time to recover before the event.

Yes, your mobile massage therapist will bring oils and equipment for your treatment. You'll just need to grab some towels (we recommend three for the table and to cover you).

Learn more about how it works

To keep you and your therapist safe, it’s important to hold off on getting a massage if you’re unwell with a fever or flu-like symptoms, or if you have a contagious skin disease. Therapists have the right to cancel your treatment if they think it will harm you or them in any way.

If you have a health condition and you’re not sure about booking a massage, consult your GP for advice beforehand.

What others are saying about Urban sports massage...

"I've had probably 20 sports massages from Urban now over the last 18 months. Every one has been really good and super professional. The convenience of having someone come to your house is terrific - plus you can just carry on relaxing afterwards rather than having to travel home!"

Liz Rice, 24 April 2019

"I had an amazing sports massage with Noel. Noel was punctual, professional and courteous. I've had many many sports massages over the years and Noel is one of the better therapists, responding to my requests to concentrate on certain areas but also finding spots that I hadn't realised were tight. Definitely booking back in."

Soulsearcher, 4 Jul 2022

"Will 100% be booking again! Highly recommend Josh. Will be booking Josh again and highly recommend him to others. He cured the pain I was in and it was the first proper sports/injury massage I’ve had and it’s more much more beneficial than a ‘relaxing’ one. He was very respectful and made me feel comfortable at all times."

Laura Morgan, 07 November 2022

"Great service and bloody good massage. My back was playing up and a sports massage really helps. I booked a massage and an hour later Sarah arrived and sorted my muscles out 😀"

Kate M, 03 September 2020

“Takes the stress out of booking appointments. I now have all my massages at home!”

Roz Hodgkinson-Williams

“Great massage and nice to have it at home, rather than brave public transport or driving afterwards!”
